COVID19

THERE’S A LOT OF INFORMATION AT ShastaReady.ORG, THE FACEBOOK CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION CENTER AND CDC.GOV.

ANOTHER SHASTA COUNTY RESIDENT HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19, BRINGING THE TOTAL TO 37.  THE LATEST IS A MAN IN HIS 70s WHO HAS SHOWN NO SYMPTOMS.  4 PEOPLE HAVE DIED AND 3 REMAIN IN ISOLATION. 15 PEOPLE ARE QUARANTINED DUE TO POSSIBLE EXPOSURE.

BUTTE COUNTY HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 40 CASES. TEHAMA COUNTY HAS HAD 4, WITH ONE FATALITY.  TRINITY COUNTY HAS HAD ONE CASE. HUMBOLDT COUNTY HAS NOW HAD A TOTAL OF 98 CASES, WITH TWO DEATHS. SISKIYOU COUNTY HAS HAD 6, AND ALL HAVE RECOVERED.  DEL NORTE COUNTY HAS DOUBLED SINCE FRIDAY TO 43 CASES.  GLENN COUNTY HAS HAD 14.  LASSEN COUNTY ENTERED THE WEEKEND WITH NONE, BUT THEY NOW HAVE 5.  THERE ARE STILL NONE REPORTED IN MODOC COUNTY.

OFFICIALS ARE ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO GET TESTED.  4,602 TESTS HAVE SHOWN NEGATIVE RESULTS IN SHASTA COUNTY.  ANYONE, EVEN WITH NO SYMPTOMS, CAN GET TESTED FOR FREE AT A COVID TESTING STATION AT SHASTA COLLEGE OR AT THE RED BLUFF COMMUNITY CENTER OR AT CORNING HIGH SCHOOL.  IF INSURANCE DOESN’T COVER THE COST, THE STATE WILL.  APPOINTMENTS MUST BE MADE ONLINE AT LHI.CARE/COVIDTESTING

PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS STRONGLY DISCOURAGE SOCIAL GATHERINGS. THEY SAY TRAVELING OUT OF COUNTY CAN PUT EVERYONE AT RISK AND EVERYONE SHOULD WEAR MASKS WHILE IN PUBLIC PLACES.

SHASTA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOME GYM OWNERS HAVE OPENED IN DEFIANCE OF THE RULES, AND THAT FITNESS GYMS ARE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS FOR DISEASE SPREAD BUT THE COUNTY HAS NO INTENTION OF ENFORCEMENT BEYOND HOPING THAT THEY CHOOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING.  COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER DOCTOR KAREN RAMSTROM HAS PROVIDED THE STATE WITH SUGGESTIONS ON HOW SUCH FACILITIES COULD TAKE STEPS IN REDUCING THE DANGER OF INFECTION.  GYMS, NAIL SALONS, MOVIE THEATERS, BARS AND A NUMBER OF OTHER BUSINESSES ARE AWAITING STAGE 3 FOR CLEARANCE TO OPEN, UNLESS THE GOVERNOR ALLOWS THAT TO HAPPEN EARLY IN SOME COUNTIES, SUCH AS WAS DONE WITH HAIR SALONS AND BARBER SHOPS AFTER DOCTOR RAMSTROM ACHIEVED A VARIANCE FOR SHASTA COUNTY.

ANYBODY 18 YEARS OR YOUNGER CAN PICK UP A FREE LUNCH EVERY WEEKDAY AT A NUMBER OF SCHOOL BUS STOPS, STORES AND OTHER LOCATIONS THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE KQMS FACEBOOK PAGE.

INFORMATION ON SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD DELIVERIES TO ISOLATED SENIORS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THE MEDICALLY VULNERABLE IS AVAILABLE BY CALLING 2-1-1.

THE INSTITUTE ON AGING HAS A FRIENDSHIP LINE FOR SENIORS FEELING LONELY AT 800-971-0016

THERE’S A CRITICAL NEED FOR BLOOD DONATIONS RIGHT NOW. ESPECIALLY NEEDED ARE A-NEGATIVE, B-NEGATIVE AND BOTH TYPES OF O.  PLATELETS ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED AS WELL.  APPOINTMENTS CAN BE MADE AT VITALANT.ORG OR 877-25-VITAL.
