THERE’S A LOT OF INFORMATION AT ShastaReady.ORG, THE FACEBOOK CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION CENTER AND CDC.GOV.

FIVE MORE COVID-19 CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN SHASTA COUNTY FOR A TOTAL OF 176.  THE LATEST CASES ARE A BOY AND GIRL BOTH UNDER AGE 13, A WOMAN IN HER 50s AND A MAN AND WOMAN IN THEIR 80s.  3 OF THEM HAVE SYMPTOMS.  SIX SHASTA COUNTY RESIDENTS HAVE DIED.  THERE ARE 42 ACTIVE CASES, 4 PEOPLE ARE HOSPITALIZED AND 2 OF THEM ARE IN THE I.C.U.  168 PEOPLE ARE QUARANTINED DUE TO POSSIBLE EXPOSURE.

BUTTE COUNTY REPORTED 24 NEW CASES THURSDAY FOR A TOTAL OF 319. TEHAMA COUNTY IS UP TO 98. GLENN COUNTY’S SUDDEN SURGE TO 159 HAS PLACED IT ON THE LIST OF COUNTIES THE GOVERNOR HAS ORDERED BACK ON RESTRICTED OPENINGS. LASSEN COUNTY HAS SPIKED TO 40 CASES IN THE COMMUNITY, IN ADDITION TO 227 IN THE PRISON POPULATION. SISKIYOU COUNTY HAS HAD 33.  THERE HAVE BEEN 157 IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY. TRINITY COUNTY IS STILL REPORTING 2 CASES, AND THERE ARE STILL NONE CONFIRMED IN MODOC COUNTY.

PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED BY REPORTS OF MANY PEOPLE IN HIGH-PUBLIC-CONTACT POSITIONS, INCLUDING STAFF AT MEDICAL-RELATED FACILITIES, REFUSING TO WEAR MASKS, PLACING SOMETIMES ALREADY-VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN DANGER.  NOW THERE’S NO EXCUSE BECAUSE MASKS AND HAND SANITIZER IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE.  THE STATE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES HAS GIVEN SHASTA COUNTY MORE THAN A HALF-MILLION SURGICAL MASKS AND ALMOST 4,300 GALLONS OF HAND SANITIZER TO BE OFFERED AT NO COST TO BUSINESSES WITH 25 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES.  IT’S BEING DISTRIBUTED BY SUPERIOR CALIFORNIA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AT 225-2760 EXTENSION 203.

COVID-19 IS VERY DANGEROUS TO THE ELDERLY AND OTHER MEDICALLY VULNERABLE PEOPLE.  THE USE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING AND FACE COVERINGS IS HOW WE PROTECT OTHERS AND SLOW THE SURGE.  A LARGE NUMBER OF CASES ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE RESULTED FROM INDOOR SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

15,171 TESTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED NEGATIVE IN SHASTA COUNTY. THOSE NUMBERS DON’T INCLUDE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TESTED FOR ANTIBODIES, AS VITALANT HAS BEEN DOING WITH ALL BLOOD DONORS.

ANYONE CAN GET TESTED FOR FREE, WHETHER SHOWING SYMPTOMS OR NOT.  IF INSURANCE DOESN’T COVER THE COST, THE STATE WILL. APPOINTMENTS MUST BE MADE AT LHI.CARE/COVIDTESTING. MOBILE TESTING IS AVAILABLE IN BURNEY, FALL RIVER, AND NOW IN DOWNTOWN REDDING AT SHASTA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER, WITH APPOINTMENTS AT 225-5591.

A NEW PROGRAM HAS STARTED FOR CUSTOMERS WHO ARE CONCERNED WHEN THEY ENTER A BUSINESS THAT DOESN’T TAKE CORONAVIRUS SAFETY SERIOUSLY.  REDDING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND SHASTA COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES HAVE LAUNCHED THE “ROADMAP TO RECOVERY STAR PROGRAM”, IN WHICH BUSINESS OWNERS CAN VISIT ShastaReady.ORG AND SELF-CERTIFY THAT THEY ARE FOLLOWING GUIDANCE TO CONTROL THE PANDEMIC.  THEY MAY THEN POST A SPECIAL STAR SIGN IN THEIR WINDOW TO PUT THEIR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS AT EASE.  A DIGITAL STAR CAN BE POSTED ON A BUSINESS’S WEBSITE.  CONSUMERS CAN FIND A LIST OF COMPLIANT BUSINESSES AT ShastaReady.ORG

ANYBODY 18 YEARS OR YOUNGER CAN PICK UP A FREE LUNCH AT A NUMBER OF SCHOOL BUS STOPS, STORES AND OTHER LOCATIONS THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE KQMS FACEBOOK PAGE.
